At Sage Clinics, we understand the profound impact that loss and grief can have on individuals and families. Our dedicated Bereavement and Grief Support services offer compassionate and personalized support to help individuals navigate the challenges of grief, loss, and bereavement with understanding, empathy, and resilience.

Understanding Bereavement and Grief:

Bereavement: Bereavement refers to the period of mourning and adjustment that follows the death of a loved one. It involves coping with the emotional, psychological, and practical challenges of loss, including feelings of sadness, grief, anger, guilt, and loneliness.

Grief: Grief is the natural response to loss, encompassing a range of emotions, thoughts, and behaviors that individuals may experience as they mourn the death of a loved one. Grief is a unique and individual process, influenced by factors such as the nature of the loss, the individual’s relationship with the deceased, and their coping resources and support systems.

At Sage Clinics, we recognize how difficult it can be to navigate the complexities of grief and bereavement. Our Bereavement and Grief Support services provide a compassionate and supportive space for individuals to process their loss, honor their loved one’s memory, and find healing and meaning in the midst of sorrow.

Our services include:

  • Individual Counseling: Our experienced therapists provide individual counseling and support tailored to your unique needs and circumstances. We offer a safe and confidential space for you to explore your emotions, thoughts, and experiences related to grief and loss, and develop coping strategies to navigate your grief journey with resilience and compassion.
  • Support Groups: From time to time, we offer support groups and group therapy sessions for individuals who have experienced similar losses, providing a supportive and validating environment to share experiences, connect with others, and learn from each other’s journeys of grief and healing.
  • Couples and Family Counseling: We provide counseling and support for couples and families grieving the loss of a loved one, helping them navigate the complexities of grief together, strengthen their communication and relationships, and find comfort and support in each other during this difficult time.

Joanna's Journey

Joanna, a 48-year-old teacher, sought bereavement counseling at Sage Clinics six months after the passing of her beloved mother. Struggling to navigate the overwhelming emotions and challenges of grief, Joanna knew she needed support to cope with the profound loss she experienced. Since her mother's passing, Joanna found herself engulfed in a whirlwind of emotions. She experienced intense waves of sadness, longing, and emptiness, longing for her mother's comforting presence and wise counsel. Grief weighed heavily on Joanna's heart, affecting her sleep, appetite, and overall well-being. Simple daily tasks felt like insurmountable hurdles, and Joanna struggled to find joy or meaning in life without her mother by her side.

One of the most significant challenges Joanna faced was the overwhelming sense of guilt and regret that plagued her thoughts. She couldn't shake the feeling that she hadn't done enough for her mother in her final days or expressed her love and gratitude adequately. Memories of missed opportunities and unfinished conversations haunted Joanna, leaving her feeling burdened by unresolved emotions and unfinished business. In her bereavement counseling sessions at Sage Clinics, Joanna found a safe and supportive space to process her grief and navigate the complexities of loss with compassion and understanding. With the guidance of her compassionate therapist, Joanna was encouraged to express her thoughts, feelings, and memories of her mother openly, without judgment or inhibition. Through counseling, Joanna gained insights into the nature of her grief and learned to recognize and validate her emotions as natural and normal responses to loss. Her therapist provided her with coping strategies to manage overwhelming emotions, including mindfulness techniques, journaling exercises, and relaxation practices. Joanna also explored her feelings of guilt and regret in therapy, learning to forgive herself for perceived shortcomings and unfinished business with her mother. She was encouraged to reframe her perspective on her relationship with her mother, focusing on the love, connection, and shared memories they cherished rather than dwelling on regrets and what-ifs.

While the pain of her mother's absence would always remain, Joanna learned to carry her mother's love and wisdom in her heart, finding comfort and strength in the memories they shared. Her sleep improved, her appetite returned, and she rediscovered moments of joy and gratitude in her daily life.
