Psychological Assessment

Psychological Assessment

Psychological assessment with an appropriately trained professional can provide valuable information and insights into how you think, feel, act and much more. Assessments usually involve exploration of how you are feeling and any areas of wellbeing you may be struggling with currently.

The psychologist or therapist will also usually explore with you the possible reasons why you may feel as you do and other influencing factors. Triggers may be in the here and now, or perhaps related to earlier life experiences. Sometimes you may not know why you feel the way you do, and that is common. The aim is to work collaboratively with the professional to understand what might be going on and consider ways of improving your wellbeing.

After your assessment, our experts will be able to make recommendations on next steps and agree a plan collaboratively with you. Recommendations may include psychological therapy, interventions to support your specific needs or capabilities, referrals to different specialists for further assessments or support, and/or lifestyle changes.

Who can benefit from it?

Psychological assessment and treatment may be beneficial if you or a family member are:

  • Experiencing difficulty in managing emotions

  • Feeling stressed, burnt out or psychologically drained a lot of the time

  • Struggling with relationships or friendships
  • Looking to have some support as a couple to focus on strengthening your relationship
  • There are situations within the family that are leading to stress, grief, anger or conflict
  • Looking for structured input to help improve work performance, family life or social relations

Saira's Journey

Saira, a 27-year-old graphic designer, has been grappling with persistent feelings of sadness, frustration, and self-doubt for the past year. She struggles to find joy in her work and hobbies, often feeling overwhelmed by a sense of hopelessness and exhaustion. Recognizing the need for support, Saira decides to seek help and schedules an appointment for a psychology assessment with Sage Clinic.

During her initial assessment, Saira opened up about her experiences and symptoms, expressing her concerns about the impact of depression on her daily life and well-being. Her psychologist conducted a comprehensive evaluation, exploring Saira's family background, medical history and her early life experiences, as sometimes there can be longstanding triggers and/or themes that contribute to how we feel in the here and now. They also discussed Saira’s goals for therapy, such as areas she would like to focus on and changes she would hope to see.

Throughout the assessment process, Saira reported feeling validated and understood. After completing the assessment, Saira and her psychologist collaboratively developed a personalized treatment plan tailored to her unique needs and preferences. As her goals were to learn how to manage self-critical thoughts and get her motivation and energy back, she was recommended sessions based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as this is an evidence-based treatment for depression. Her psychologist emphasized the importance of self-care practices, social support, and ongoing communication throughout the treatment journey.
