Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

We are here to help

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

ADHD is a condition that impacts a persons ability to focus on tasks, pay attention and stay organized. Although ADHD is more commonly diagnosed in children, it can persist into adulthood. Many individuals remain undiagnosed and struggle with its consequences not only in their professional careers but also in their personal and social lives. Though diagnosis can be challenging as similar symptoms can be caused by other conditions such as depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, or certain medications, receiving a comprehensive assessment can be beneficial.

At Sage, ADHD symptoms are reviewed thoroughly to determine the true underlying cause – and only then are treatment recommendations developed, specific to the age of the person and tailored to their needs.

There are a variety of treatment options for ADHD including therapy, education, and if needed, medication. The key goal of treatment is to identify the best combination of these for a given individual to achieve the desired outcome. This requires not only expertise in ADHD but also teamwork among complementary professionals such as psychologists, psychiatrists and counsellors. This multidisciplinary team approach is central to the clinical model at Sage and is especially valuable for complex conditions such as ADHD.

Who can benefit from it?

You or your child might benefit from Sage’s ADHD service if you notice:

  • A short attention span and being easily distracted, especially with tasks that are tedious or time consuming.
  • Often make mistakes in schoolwork/work, are forgetful or often lose things
  • Prefer to be self-directed rather than receive instructions.
  • You prefer tasks with fewer steps and are less likely to finish a task if it requires completing or remembering multiple stages.
  • Have more restless energy which makes it hard to sit still, especially in quiet surroundings.
  • Acting quite impulsively without thinking of the consequences.
  • Tendency to interrupt when someone is talking and find turn taking and waiting in queues frustrating.
  • A schoolteacher, counselor or others have raised the possibility of ADHD as an explanation for classroom behavior or academic issues.
  • You or a loved one has been diagnosed or is on treatment for ADHD and would like a second opinion or a multidisciplinary team review.
  • You are on medication for ADHD and would like to review options.
  • You have a family member with ADHD and would like advice on how to best support this individual and relationships with siblings, parents etc.
